Types of Watch Movements

Manual Wind Watches:

Collectors find these kind of watches attractive, even though they are manual wind watches, which means that the user has to wind it every one or two days by the crown in order to work. Once the wearer winds the crown the watch will keep a power sustain in the mechanism that will keep the watch running until the next winding. Maybe these timepieces are desirable because it could be said that it is the classic way to read the time, since they were the first type of movement. They are still produced in Switzerland by fine watch producers such as Jaeger-Lecoultre and Franck Muller and can even cost over 0,000 when they come accompanied by complications. Some exclusive models can sustain up to 18 days of power and will regularly have power-reserve indicator on the face.

Automatic Watches:

They are called automated or self-winding because the wearer does not need to wind the watch to generate power, the watch winds itself automatically once a someone moves the wrist. The arm appeal causes the rotor, a metal weight attached to a winding mechanism, to rotate back and forth in a circular appeal to wind the mainspring, a flat coiled spring that powers mechanical watches.

Quartz Watches:

These type of watches do not need much maintenance, only a change of battery every other year. These watches are only powered by a battery. However there is a special kind of quartz watch that could be called a hybrid, a mix of automated and quartz. In other words the watch comes with an electrical generator that is charged by the movement of wearer's wrist . These watches are sold by Japanese or Swiss fellowships such as Seiko, Tissot , and Omega under model names called "Kinetic", "Autoquartz"or "Omegamatic . The third type of Quartz watch get their power from the sun. These solar watches have solar cells located on the dial that payment the watch mechanism. The most popular of these solar watches is without doubt the citizen "Eco-Drive".
